The Pompadour Green Pigeon usually occurs singly or in small groups. Hill Pigeon is a stout bodied pigeon, very similar in size and general appearance to the Rock Pigeon, but mainly differentiated by its tail pattern which consist of a broad white tail-band across the black tail. During the breeding season they call loudly in the mornings from prominent perches including the tops of buildings in urban areas or on wires. It lacks a supercilium and has a spotted breast, which is sometimes mixed with rufous. Its flight is fast and direct, with the regular beats and an occasional sharp flick of the wings which are characteristic of pigeons in general. This species is found from the Indus valley of Pakistan to the plains of the Brahmaputra extending south to the peninsula of India. The Chukar is a resident breeder in dry, open, and often hilly country.
