The Ucross Journal is comprised of 25 short pieces, written one each day the composer was in residence on the Ucross Foundation Ranch. The duo’s classically influenced arrangements create melodic and rapturous pieces full of emotion and lyricism, while their deft arrangements of jazz standards remain true to the style and spirit of these classic tunes. Boasting blades and breathing machines, with ivory handles, and sharp edges.
Bob Marsh sings, rants and yowls whilst committing unnatural acts with his cello and other electronic devices creating a unique chemistry with the equally unnatural lap steel guitar style of David Michalak. The result covers a varied sonic terrain including avant folk-like outsider songs, field recordings, noise and lowercase improv for accordion, guitars, didgeridoo, drums, prepared piano, radio, turntable, violin, vocals and zither rod.
